Last weekend I went down to B-ham to work on my VW at Edwin's shop, Element Garage, and to attend a rallycross at a new site the crew has now dubbed "Shag Bark Rally Park" down in Harpersville, Alabama. Shawn, the owner of the 600-hundred-acre property, has been very gracious to let the SCCA use his land for rally events. The sites best and most unique quality is the ample rolling terrain which creates a variety of tricky positive/negative camber scenarios, as well as long courses. Shawn is an aspiring rally driver who hopes to continue expanding the rally park and one day create a multi-stage network of roads that would flow throughout his property to make the southeast's premiere rally venue. A couple of Honda engineers had a stripped out "mostly stock" Honda Pilot that they've converted into a true rally beast that resembles more of a baja truck than a rally car. Paul Street of Honda Manufacturing of Alabama invited me for a ride in the Pilot to demonstrate the car's power and ability to absorb the rough terain — very impressive!
